Happy Holidays all.

I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks and warmest well wishes to everyone who has helped make 2011 such an amazing year for myself and for my company Cardboard Treehouse. 2011 has been a wild ride that has provided me with wonderful new opportunities and ventures that have been both exciting and rewarding.

One such venture was that I was able to animate two clips for This Hour has 22 Minutes 2011 Holiday Special. The special aired on December 13th and as a Christmas present to those who have been asking, I’ve now uploaded them to my cardboardtreehouse youtube channel

This Hour has 22 Minutes Christmas Special

Hi All,
Things have been pretty busy around the old Cardboard Treehouse. My entire family have been dealing with several degrees of stomach flu, ear infections, regular colds, and a nice nagging cough. On a much more upbeat note, I just found out that two animated clips that I had animated for This Hour has 22 Minutes’ 2011 Christmas Special, made the cut and will be airing tomorrow night, December 13, 2011 at 8 pm Atlantic Time, on the great Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (the CBC for non-Canadians).

The show runs for an hour and there are 4 animated clips. The two that are mine are “Frostie the Snowman” and “Charlie Browne’s Christmas”. Audio was provided by This Hour has 22 Minutes and I was asked to make the characters and animation reflective of the source material but far enough away to be parody. I’d like to thank a good friend, and awesome animation professional, Caroline Jarvis who assisted me with some clean up on the two pieces. And props go out to the good people at Cartoon Conrad for some excellent last minute technical support.

I’ll be posting the clips on the site in a few days, after the show airs so be sure to check your local listings and watch This Hour has 22 Minutes tomorrow night at 8 pm on the CBC. You may never look at Charlie Browne and Frostie the same.

Featured article in Entrepreneur’s Edge magazine

If you live around Halifax, you may have seen this magazine around town. Entrepreneur’s Edge is a magazine published by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CEED) and they discribe the magazine as:

We publish Entrepreneur’s Edge magazine twice a year – which records the accomplishments of CEED clients, shares the latest news and inspires readers to fulfill their dreams. The magazine is a valued communications tool in supporting the development of a vibrant entrepreneurial culture in Atlantic Canada.

My company, Cardboard Treehouse – animation & illustration, was selected as CEED’s 1000th business start-up that has been helped by CEED. As a result, they’ve written a feature article on me and my company. They even put my mug on the cover.

Tonight is a busy night for CEED. They will be hosting an open house to show off their new location. They are hosting the graduation of the most recent group of “CEEDling’s” . And tonight is the official launch of the Winter 2011 issue of Entrepreneur’s Edge magazine. The event goes from 5:00 – 8:30 pm at their new digs. All are welcome. I’ll be there so say hi if you see me.

Hal-con wrap up

Well my first Hal-con experience has is over. It was a blast. I met some great people. Did some fun convention sketches and made some cool custom paper toys for people. At the end of the Con I had a draw for a paper craft coo-coo clock which was drawn for by a random Hal-con worker. Congratulations to the winner, Devin Broome, who will be picking up his prize later this week.

This weekend, November 12 and 13th, Halifax is hosting the Hal-Con Sci-Fi/Fantasy Convention at the World Trade and Convention Center. I’ll be there both days from 9am to 7pm with prints and paper crafts at our booth in the vendor section of Hal-con. Joel Duggan of Starcrossedonline will be joining me at the booth with some fine art of his own. You can find us in the booklet/map under Paton Francis and Starcrossed or you can come in the main doors to the vendor area and we’ll be straight ahead and on your right.

It is looking to be a great time so come out and say hi.

For those of you who have been to the site before may have noticed some modifications to cardboardtreehouse.com. I’ve made some changes to the overall design of the site as well as changed the animation and gallery page as well.

There are now a few additional videos posted in the animation gallery featuring some recent info-graphic that I did with a company called IllustrateIT. It was fun finding creative ways to bring to life concepts like “IT distribution systems” and “contact management solutions”.

Word on the Street (update)

Word on the Street was a lot of fun. There was a lot of interest in my prints and I had a chance to test out some new stuff that I’ll be taking to Hal-con 2011.

One of my new products was a custom “Paper You” paper craft. I sketched, painted, and made some custom, paper versions of people as they waited. They make great desk caddies.
